18 holes on flat terrain. The relatively well-maintained but hard to hit small greens are slow and guarded by deep greenside bunkers. The rustic fairways are covered with carabao grass. The Par 5 14th hole is reachable with the 2nd shot but the highway on the right side of the fairway is very intimidating.

The par 72 golf course was built on 58 hectares of slightly undulating, rolling terrain which measures 6,489 yards from the blue tee. There are five lakes and a natural creek winding through the course. There are many mango trees shading the 18-hole course. The most difficult hole is the 432-yard par 4 fourth. It is a blind right dog-leg hole with three sand traps, a creek to cross and out-of-bounds hazard on the left side all the way from tee-off to the green. Soft spikes required.

At 500 feet above sea level, golfers will enjoy the breathtaking view of Mactan, Bohol and the bay. Rolling terrain, narrow fairways, strong winds and the water hazards will challenge the golfers. The 5,864 yards, par 72, 18 hole course was designed by Gary Player. The course rating is 69.4 with a slope rating of 126. Soft spikes required.

Par 36, 9-hole, well maintained Parkland type of golf course with its fair share of narrow fairways guarded by mahogany trees on both sides, fairway and green side bunkers, with water hazards and some creeks with some elevated and rolling greens. For example hole No.5 is 390 yards long going to a small elevated green with a 'collapsed' front plus bunkers on both sides. Approaching the green on hole No.6 a creek widens to a big pond just in front of the green. Hole No.7 has a lateral water hazard on the left hand side all the way to an island green.

Located in lush terrain where irrigation is not a problem, it is playable anytime of the year. A par 72, it has 7,079 yards if played from the back tee. The greens are huge but relatively flat, adorned by pristine white sand traps. Water hazards abound in this challenging layout which is further tricked with vast areas of coconut and mahogany trees. Its signature hole is No.11, a par 3 guarded by a large pond in front. The highlight of Apo is tee mound No. 10 which offers a scenic view of Mount Apo, the country's highest peak.

It is a very short course with a Par 66. There are some very tight and undulating fairways where accuracy is necessary especially when there are strong winds. It is a good course to practice the irons in the golf bag. The reasonably priced green and caddy's fees, its proximity to the Makati business district, the approximately 3.5 hours playing time and the driving range attract a lot of golfers. Surprisingly it is playable even after a downpour.

Lodged at 5,000 feet above sea level, this 18-hole par 61 � 4,063 yards, designed by Architect Dallas McGreen and redesigned in the early 1970�s by Golem Silverio presents seven (7) par 4�s and eleven (11) par 3s. The par 3s are tough and long with tight narrow fairway lined with trees and elevated greens. The shortest par 3 is hole no. 9 with a distance of 114 yards and longest hole no. 15 with a distance of 192 yards. Longest par 4 is hole no. 3 with a distance of 411 yards. The Golf Course has three (3) lagoons and each had a depth of 8.5 feet. This serves as water hazard for the playing golfers and a water irrigation supply for the whole golf course.

Bayanihan golf course has only 9 holes in just ten (10) hectares of wide open space. This Par 31 �community� golf course is made up of four par 4 and five par 3 holes on a flat terrain. There are no water hazards and sand traps. The slightly elevated and relatively small �sand� greens have the same dimensions. All these were designed for minimum maintenance requirements. Please bring food and drinks as there is no clubhouse facilities.

Designed in 1945 by Don Serafin Teves and Simplicio Manictic. Popularly known as the Dumaguete Golf and Country Club, it was one of the earliest golf courses to be built in the country. Conveniently located just outside Dumaguete City, on a scenic, naturally rolling terrain where you can get a stunning panorama of Cebu, Siquijor and Sumilon Island along with the renowned Ta�on Strait.

Spectacular holes with lake and mountain views from the 18-hole championship course designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer will simply take your breathe away. This 6,788 yards Lakeside Course takes advantage of the scenic contours of Caliraya Lake, as it utilizes the natural topography and rolling terrain to create subtle rolls from tee to fairways to greens. It is designed to be friendly but without taking away some of the challenges posed by the exceptional water hazards by the lakeside. Soft spikes required.

Aguinaldo is relatively short, flat but "tight" course that requires precision golf from the first drive to the final putt. There are big lakes fronting two par three holes, two par fours, one forced dog-leg and big greens on this par 68 course.

Par 72, 18 holes. Flat Zoysia grass covers the well-maintained greens which are guarded by pebble-ridden sand traps. The fairways are usually on flat terrain with carabao grass and has patches of rough areas. There are trees and even roads on the sides in addition to the out-of-bounds markers of white post and barb wires. Small ponds and some creeks are on some of the fairways. Small tee mounds are elevated and also covered by carabao grass. Improvements are currently being implemented.

The 36-hole complex has undulating wide coconut tree-lined fairways laced with manmade lakes. There are par 3 holes crossing ravines. The North Course is a championship layout and measures 6,872 yards (6,253 meters) with a course rating of 72.4. The signature holes of the North Course are the contiguous greens of No. 9 and No. 18. The shorter South Course also features the ravines, a bit of sand traps, etc. A common challenge of the two courses is the occasional wind. The two courses were designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

More popularly known as the Canlubang Old Course among the locals. It was designed to be used by the employees of the sugar estate. It is one of the oldest if not the oldest golf course in the country. The 9-hole golf course is relatively shorter but with very tight fairways. It has its fair share of sand traps, very old acacia trees and a mixture of flat and rolling terrain. There are two teeing grounds for each hole to differentiate the front nine from the back nine. The green and tee mounds are in poor condition due to the lack of maintenance and repairs.

Canyon Woods Residential Resort Club nine (9) Hole Mountainous Golf Course was found to be a challenging golf course by golfers because of the narrow fairways and deep ravines. This Par-34 golf course gives a different experience, specially when playing Hole No. 6 a par 4 Hole with ravines along the fairway and rolling terrain. It offers the option of playing the second round of challenge by playing the back nine from the yellow tees. The wind from Lake Taal gives a cool atmosphere at the golf course especially in the afternoon. The scenic view of the mountainside is complimented by ducks swimming at the lagoon and the birds flying across the fairway.

Capitol Hills, as its name indicates, is on rolling terrain whose holes are sometimes perched atop a hill like the famous No.10. This par-62 championship course is one of the attractive open courses today in view of its updated modern facilities. It is long and challenging with its vast greens, some difficult water holes like its No.12 and beguiling par- 3 holes like No.13. In view of its length, some golfers call it a driving course. Sauna baths and massage services are among its amenities at the new clubhouse. It has a main restaurant with a good cuisine and air-conditioned function rooms.

The golf course designed by local legend Ben Arda was constructed in the 70�s. Nine holes were renovated and re-opened in 2002. Narrow to medium fairways lined with old trees on rolling terrain. It is windy from November to March. Golfers have to walk the course as there are no golf carts for rent.

White sand traps are furnished with ground coral rock, adding to the contrast of the greenery. This championship course has been the site of the PAL interclub and important legs of the Philippine Golf Circuit.

It will require the use of all the clubs in your golf bag. Hole No. 1 is a par 4, 312 yards lay fronting the beach property. Referred to as the "monster". The left side is bordered by a forest of gangly coconut trees while the right side is a 25-foot drop from a cliff to the beach.

Players will also enjoy the panoramic view of Mount Pinatubo on a lot of fairways as Sun Valley is at an altitude of 370 meters above sea level.

Tee off to a challenging round of golf at the Cliffs' nine-hole, par 36 all-weather championship golf course, designed by the International Management Group (IMG) and maintained by Sta. Elena Properties, Inc. The Cliffs Golf Course features a unique ocean hole that is undoubtedly one of the best Par 3 holes in Asia. Playing from a variety of lengths, this medium to short Par 3 will require precise club selection. As there is usually a mild wind from varying directions on this hole, it will always be a shot teeming with danger. Stop and enjoy the view though, and don't be too worried about the ball going in the ocean.

The 18-hole course on the hills has narrow fairways which usually requires accurate tee shots. This is compounded by the relatively small greens. The course rating from the blue tee is 70.5. Going up and down the fairways require using a golf cart for some players. The areas can be muddy after a downpour. The course was designed by Peter Chiongbian and Associates who managed to carve out the 18-hole from the steep hills and whatever little flat terrain they could find.

Club Intramuros is only a par-66 (4,151 yds.) layout, but it can be a real test of your short game with either water, out-of-bounds, or both on nearly every hole. A big plus for Club Intramuros is that it can easily be played in just over two hours, making it ideal for that early morning or late afternoon game, or even in the evening. Constructed in 1907, this course is part and parcel of the bright history of the game in the country. It is one of the oldest today.

Designed by former British Open Champion and Master Architect, Tom Weiskopf, created a masterpiece of golf out of the sugar lands of Laguna. Playing golf at The Country Club will test your golfing skills at both the Amateur and Professional levels but being on this immaculately maintained golf course with so few players will be a joy to anyone who has a chance to play there. The course plays a long 7,256 yards but the true satisfaction is finishing on the magnificent 18th, definitely one of the best finishing holes in Asia. Soft spikes required.

Experience the unique challenge of a short golf course in the heart of the city that had been in existence for over 50 years. A 9 hole golf course converted to an 18 hole course with separate tee mounts for the back nine. The fairway is a combination of flat and rolling terrain covered with carabao grass. The green is of Korean variety. In some holes you will see the city road and residences; otherwise, you see jungles all around with cluster of trees on one side and trees trimmed at the fairways. The sand traps can ruin your day.

The Del Monte Golf Course, operated by Del Monte Philippines, Inc., is located within the vast Del Monte Plantation in the highlands of Bukidnon. It is composed of 18 holes set on an undulating land of well-kept verdant roughs and fairways. Located approximately 600 meters above sea level, the weather is perpetually moderate to cool. Features of the golf course include challenging fairways lined with trees on both sides, sand traps and manmade lakes which call for accurate drives. Large and tricky greens likewise provide a good bite to green shots. The course calls for very accurate shots. The par 3 12th often dubbed as the �Waterloo Hole� needs a carry of 210 yards over water. The 16th, the �Warne�s Hole�, was aptly named when one of Del Monte�s executives Thomas Warne sent 36 balls into the lake in 1938. A warm-up at the scenic countryside driving range sets the golfer ready for a slopy front nine. The relatively flatter back nine around the 5-hectare Cawayanon lake should keep one challenged until he finally gets through the 18th for a glass of cold pineapple juice drink and the juicy Del Monte steak at the Clubhouse.

Par 72, 18-holes that offers great views of the world famous Mayon Volcano and the Albay Gulf. Formerly known as the Mayon Imperial Golf Club. It was greatly affected by a major eruption but members of the Legazpi City Golf Club are doing some work to at least make it playable. Carabao grass covers the fairways and greens. The bunkers are filled with "lava" sand except for the hole numbers 2 and 3 which have white sand. Bring extra golf balls.

ANDY DYE COURSE The Andy Dye Course at Eagle Ridge was originally laid out to maximum advantage of the spectacular natural canyon winding through the course from "tip to tip" using traditional and classic golf design with the fundamental elements of risk and reward decision in shot making and its execution. The entire 18 holes are working together, offering unlimited balance and complimentary shot selection, creativity and mental discipline. The elevated and narrow greens makes it the most difficult course of the club. GREG NORMAN COURSE Greg Norman has designed a course that has been subtly shaped on the fairways and greens where accuracy and distance will be put at a premium. It does appear to be challenging course that would be enjoyed by all. For the avid golfer looking to play a serious game, he has created signature hole for the ultimate golfing pleasure. ISAO AOKI COURSE The Aoki Course was deliberately designed for the weekend golfer with its wide open fairways and negligible rough. The course is not that heavily contoured or bunkered but some of the greens could display a problem if you end up on the wrong side of the pin placement. In deference to its designer, the clubhouse has sushi bar and fishponds. Even the lockers allow for a Japanese style bath and sauna. NICK FALDO COURSE Nick Faldo has designed an up and down course that will present a golfing test to golfers of any level. There is a potpourri of wide and tight driving holes that always seem to have bunkers in the most unwelcome spots. A well-struck drive, however, will most certainly be rewarded. The greens will test both your approach shot and putting touch as some will slope radically away from the line of play. It is the longest course of the club.

Sprawled on an exciting stretch of mountain ridges, rolling hills and ravines, the 18-hole par 72 championship course spans eighty hectares of golfing challenge and enjoyment. Relax in the charm and beauty of the highlands. Each invigorating round will give the golfer magnificent panoramic views of Laguna Lake, and the Ortigas and Makati Skylines, which can be seen throughout the complex. Soft spikes required.

Golfers who play in the 18-hole, Par 72 golf course with a 5,667 yardage will also enjoy a magnificent view of the mountains. Seasonal winds will provide the challenge on the short but narrow front nine which also has smaller greens. The longer back nine has wider fairways. The course also has water hazards and sandtraps on a relatively flat terrain. Well-maintained greens are covered with Korean Carpet Grass. Carabao and creeping grass cover the fairways for low maintenance reasons.

This Graham Marsh designed 18 hole golf course offers the golfer a different look on every hole he plays (no two holes are the same). The front nine and the back nine have totally different characters that would make you think you are playing on two different courses. The front side has a flat terrain with a lot of water hazards on it. On the other hand, the back nine is hilly with less hazards. The golf course has relatively average sized greens and fairways. The wind usually plays a big factor because it is usually stronger compared to the average courses.

Lipa City, Batangas
It's an 18-hole golf course that plays long and wide. Some fairways are wide open but the strong winds can affect your shots. The architect of the course has done a good job maximizing the space inside the base to insert the course. The golf course was not part of the original plan which evident on having three fairways on the parade grounds. Very fast greens but the most interesting feature is the monster 700+ yard Par 6. Some describe the front nine as a 'links course' while the back nine has more trees on the sides of the fairways just like most golf courses.

A newly-opened 18-hole championship golf course complete with Clark Sacobia Valley serving as its scenic backdrop. The course is long from the tips; a full 7,385-yards from the black tees. The signature hole is the 16th, a par-4 with a fairway the shape of the country of Korea, surrounded on all sides by water to an island green. There's a bailout area to the right of the four sets of tees, but the longer hitters will want to take to corner of the dogleg or to leave themselves a short iron to the island green.

The general idea of this course is to allow senior players and beginners to take in as much as golf as possible without necessary over-taxing their stamina in finishing the 18 holes. NICKLAUS COURSE -The club now has 27 holes playable. The Nicklaus Course which is 1,000 feet above sea level measures 7,102 yards from the yellow-tee with a 74.7 course rating. Even from the blue tee (6,695 yards), the course rating of 72.8 indicates the possible difficulties for the average golfer. Rolling terrain on the front nine and moderate hilly on the back nine. Scenic layouts are common with a tough finishing 18th hole punctuated with a bunker in the middle of the green. PALMER COURSE-The front nine (9) holes of the Palmer Course is located on an area higher in elevation than the Nicklaus Course. It is a typical mountain course with more adulation on its fairways. It is shorter than the front nine of Nicklaus but more challenging.

The nine-hole golf course is on a challenging rolling terrain with bunkers and a lot of trees lining up the fairways. It has carabao grass on its fairways, a par 36, and a length of 2,996 yards. You can play 18 holes by repeating the nine for a total of 6,011.

The Haciendas de Naga has a 9-hole golf course that is open, long and elevated, with rolling terrain. Its regular size greens grow carabao grass guarded by small water hazards. The fairways are narrow. The golf course is usually windy with a view of downtown Naga City in the west and Mount Isarog in the east.

Popularly known as Sta. Barbara, this naturally pristine layout is the oldest in the country, having been established in 1907. It was developed from a layout of 9 holes to a regular 18-hole golf course. Old Mahogany and other hardwood trees are scattered in the hilly and rolling terrain. No two holes are similar as the design was left to its natural state. Its signature hole is No.9 which is a short but demanding par-4 in view of a required precise tee-shot into a green guarded by water. The course is fairly waterlaced. Iloilo Golf Course was recognized by the National Historical Institute as the oldest golf course in the Philippines (est. 1907) It has a Museum of golf memorabilia celebrating 100 Years of Golf in the Philippines.

Built in the early sixties, the nine-hole course, has undulating fairways that play to a par 35 at the front tees and to a par 33 at the back tees of Holes 2 and 4. The group of Filipino pros headed by Eleuterio 'Caloy' Nival gave the course a rating of 31. The fairways are well-trimmed and most of the sand greens are heavily guarded by bunkers which are well-maintained, throughout the year.

The Peninsula Golf Course is a short privately-owned, 18-hole golf course laid out around Petron Bataan Refinery's Housing Compound. A pair of tee-boxes is provided for each hole to complete an 18-hole round of golf. It is a par 68 golf course rating of 65.4 and a corresponding slope of 116. Carabao grass grows on wide and undulating fairways. On most of the small, firm and elevated greens, you get a panoramic view of Manila Bay with the Metropolis' skyline etched in the background. Looking west, you see the majestic mountain ranges that fortified the Bataan Peninsula from unfriendly forces during World War II. Errant tee shots are penalized by natural obstructions of tall pine and/or mango trees on one side and uneven lie on the other making your recovery shot quite difficult to execute. Approach shots must not be short from perfect to get on the green in regulation and have a chance to make a birdie on relatively slow greens. All in all, the golf course maintains its unique challenges even to the very best golfers to score well for it demands a variety of shots mostly with the short and medium irons. A nine-hole, Par 36 golf course with flat fairways lined up with old Acacia, Narra and Pine trees. There are some dog-legs that require crossing small ravines, ditches and water hazards. The course has three of each Par 3, Par 4 and Par 5 over 6,484 yards. There are two tee mounts per hole for the front and back nines.

Trece Martirez City, Cavite
Sherwood Hills is the most un-Nicklaus Nicklaus course that we've seen. Built on natural flowing land, the layout is often described as an inland links because of the hard running fairways and open-fronted greens. There aren't many links courses that require carries over ravines like Sherwood does. It's safe to say that Nicklaus has eschewed his typical style of wide fairways, big green protected by even bigger bunkers. The landing areas, although generous, have to be found from the tee. The nasty cogon grass that flanks the fairway is almost impenetrable and vegetation filled ravines come into play on many of the holes as well. The greens, while not out-rageously contoured, are generally small and guarded by the good use of sand. Soft spikes required.

In the cool of the ridges surrounding the Taal volcano, the Highlands course offers some of the most unusual golf in the Philippines. The front nine begins with a couple of holes that wind along a sinew of a ridge, Taal volcano on one side, and an abyss beyond on the other. The next two holes drop nearly 400 feet in two shots, the first a blind tee shot off the dogleg left par 4 third and the next, a troublesome clubbing exercise on the par 5 fourth. The remainder of the nine is fairly straight-forward, but by no means easy, almost all fairways lead to trouble on the sides. Once the front nine has been negotiated, prepare yourself for the ride back to the clubhouse, in the gondola of a cable car that was imported from Switzerland. What goes up must come down. The second nine is more of the same and features two tough back-to-back par 5's and some tactical decisions. Soft spikes required.

In stark contrast to golf on high, Midlands, situated on a gentler piece of land, is a more traditional course that will play well from season to season, yet with more than its share of drama. You get some great views of Taal's caldera, its crater, as well as a good idea of what is in store for you on the golf course during the descent from Highlands, either by car or by teep furnicular. Broad rolling fairways invite the player to left out some shaft from the nicely elevated tees. The greens, framed by distant Mt. Makiling can range somewhere between undulating and radical, like the eight, could be quite unputtable with a front pin and an approach gone a bit long. Already it is clear that gravity and drainage is at work on the Tifdwarf. The grain is always away from the mountain and towards the lake, sometimes quite vigorously, magnified by the fact that the lake is in line with the setting sun. To add further dimensions, the seasonal winds seem to gain strength as they vortex through the narrowing valley and can be downright pesky. Soft spikes required.

The course, rated at par 72 from the championship tee is a 6,988 yards layout spread over 70 hectares of rolling hills and meandering brooks. The greens are of the Tifton 328 variety, among the best locally, they bite to the pitch and are fast to the putt which makes for interesting play. At 5,815 yards, it is still tricky due to its delineations of tight fairways with some accentuated dog legs. Molave trees line up many of its tight fairways. Small greens add to the challenge. Interesting and quite possibly its signature hole #7, is an island green surrounded by a water hazard. Being a short par-4, a golfer with a perfect tee shot reach the green and not necessarily stay on it. Bunkers and an OB line behind make this hole interesting and humiliating to many.

Villamor Air Base, Pasay City
This 50 hectare, 18 hole par 72 golf course has a total yardage of 6,681 measured from the championship tee. The fairways are bounded by lines of mahogany and eucalyptus trees, fire trees, narra and in some areas, mango trees. Most of the greens are elevated and are trimmed everyday to a height of 9/64 inch. The fairways are planted to carabao grass which is suited for the tropical climate. Palm trees serve as 100, 150 and 200-yard markers. Villamor has been for many years the host club of Philippine Masters. Although flat, it has been challenging to International play in view of its arboreal features, augmented by some water hazards. Wind has also played a role in many tournaments.

Wack Wack Golf & Country Club has two fine 18-hole championship courses, one of which is the internationally known East Course where big tournaments are held, such as the Philippine Open. It was also at the East Course where the World Cup was held in 1977. The East Course is a vast layout whose challenge lies in its water hazards, undulating and elevated small greens and lengthy fairways, plus the fact that it has only two (2) par 5's and two (2) par 3's. Its famous Hole No. 8, a Par 3, has been known to be a "make-or-break" hole even for the seasoned professional golfers. The West Course, upgraded a few years ago into an all-weather championship course is shorter and less troublesome, and draws the senior and female members of the club. Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
Acacia and mahogany trees are along the fairways of this usually windy 9-hole Tara Country Golf Course. The relatively long, flat fairways are guarded by sandtraps. A combination of small and big greens are planted with combination of carpet and Tipton grass. The airport runway which is about a few hundred yards away could be a distraction.

Expanded into 64 hectares, Zamboanga Golf Course is one of Mindanao's major layouts of 18 holes. It has a fine layout with winding fairways, dog-legs situations and big greens planted to Korean Carpet Grass. It plays to par 72, course rating of 70 with a yardage of 6,404. Although the first nine has a somewhat flat terrain, its second nine is fairly rolling that skirts around Basilan Strait for a bit of ocean view. An interesting round is always in store for the average golfer or the proficient campaigner, as flexibility is assured with long tee mounds. The course has elevated greens which can be tricky. Instead of much bunkering around the greens and on the fairways, the challenge of this windy course lies in the abundance of trees.
